Definition
A transgender person is a person who:
(a) identifies as a member of a different sex by living, or seeking to live, as a member of that sex; or
(b) has identified as a member of a different sex by living as a member of that sex; whether or not the person is a recognised transgender person.

A person’s sex may change during their lifetime as a result of surgical procedures known alternatively as sex change, gender reassignment, transsexual surgery, transgender reassignment or sexual reassignment. Throughout this process, which may be over a considerable period of time, sex could be recorded as either male or female.
